A man in his early 60s stopped me yesterday asking for help when I was on my way to the studio. He couldn't read a sign posted on the door of the restaurant where he wanted to enter and needed me to decipher it. It was a shock for me and it made me think about how fortunate we are to have access to reading and the possibilities that open up as a consequence. Society classifies this man as illiterate because he can't read or write. He never had the privilege to be taught.

And in the internal universe, could we say that there is a spiritual illiteracy? Unfortunately yes. Most of us have never received any teachings related to how to open the doors to the subtle world. That's why yoga in our times is such a revolution. More or less, all classes are intended to teach us how to read the energy in our bodies. They help us understand, little by little, what is beyond the physical and the mental, embedded within the matter.

Receiving the teachings of yoga is a privilege, not only economical and cultural but also spiritual. In karmic terms it is not that easy to arrive at the point where external circumstances are so favorable to awakening. When you sit on the mat many things happen besides the movements or stretches. The connection with your divine humaneness. Probably, the most important venture in this lifetime is to be who we authentically are. Yoga teaches exactly that.

If you already study yoga, live your practice with heart and soul, honoring the personal space where your are. If you haven't set foot on a yoga studio yet, but you are reading this, is a signal that there is a calling within yourself. So wait no longer, there is no better moment than now to start.

U n hombre de unos 60 años me paró ayer pidiendo ayuda cuando iba de camino al estudio. No podía leer un letrero que había en la puerta del restaurante en el que quería entrar y necesitaba que yo se lo descifrara.¬†Para mí fue un shock y me llevó a pensar lo afortunados que somos de tener acceso a la lectura y a todas las posibilidades que con ella se abren.¬†La sociedad clasifica a este señor como analfabeto porque no sabe leer ni escribir. Nunca ha tenido el privilegio de que le enseñaran.

Y en el universo interno, ¿podemos decir también que existe el analfabetismo espiritual? Desafortunadamente sí. La mayoría de nosotros no hemos recibido ninguna enseñanza relativa a cómo abrir las puertas del mundo sutil. Por eso el yoga en nuestros tiempos es una verdadera revolución. Más o menos, todas las clases tienen la intención de enseñarnos a leer la energía en nuestro cuerpo. Nos ayudan a comprender, poco a poco, lo que está más allá de lo físico y de lo mental y que a su vez se encuentra entretejido en la materia.

Recibir las enseñanzas del yoga es un privilegio, no sólo económico y cultural sino también espiritual. En términos kármicos no es tan fácil llegar al punto en el que las circunstancias externas sean tan favorables al despertar. Cuando te sientas en la esterilla suceden muchas cosas además de movimientos o estiramientos. La conexión con tu divina humanidad. Probablemente lo más importante que tengamos que llevar a cabo en esta vida sea ser quienes somos auténticamente. El yoga enseña exactamente eso.

Si ya estudias yoga, vive tu práctica con todo el alma, haciendo honor al espacio personal en el que te encuentras. Si todavía no has puesto los pies en un estudio, pero estás leyendo esto, es que en ti ya hay una llamada. Así que no esperes más, no hay mejor momento que el ahora para empezar.
