What is the value of your yoga?
Today's post talks about the “m” word that so many are afraid of… “money”. In a world where the use of money is marked by suffering or greed, where does yoga fit in? It seems that there is a collective way of thinking telling that the teaching of a spiritual discipline must be given for free and has to stay away from hands stained by the darkness of money. This has never been true in human history.  Even in the yoga tradition, there has always been a transaction between teacher and students. The guru (shaman/priest/rabbi/elder in the tribe, etc) was given money, favors, work, or objects in return for the guidance. The old model was based on an idea of patriarchal submission towards someone that knows best.
Fortunately today there is a new paradigm of clarity and absent of hierarchic tones. I am a teacher, not a preacher. Mi intention is to educate the students so they can choose their own ideas on how to relate to the body, the mind, and the Self.  A Hatha yoga class is physical, spiritual and educational. Yes, there is a part of business in it, we all deserve a comfortable living. When you go to a yoga class there is a great deal of preparation, effort, study and hour of work behind the scenes. That holds huge value!
In the current yoga context, there is the practice in one hand, the work of the teacher (and the studio) on the other and you stand in the middle, ascribing an specific value to what you get. The same way than when you go to the movies, out for dinner or for a drink with some friends, isn't it? There is a clear transaction in between the service and what you give back. That “what” in our world is money. You decide how to use it and how to make it flow. Yoga is a great investment in yourself, its ting-ting can resonate through the whole Cosmos for the benefit of all.
¿Cuánto vale tu yoga?
El post de hoy habla de la temida palabra que empieza por ‚Äúd‚Äù‚Ķ ‚Äúdinero‚Äù. En un mundo en el que el uso del dinero está teñido de dolor o avaricia ¿cómo encaja el yoga? Parece que existe un pensamiento colectivo según el cual la enseñanza de una disciplina espiritual debe ser regalada, gratis, no manchada por las manos que mueven el dinero. Pero esto nunca ha sido así en la historia de la humanidad. Incluso en la tradición del yoga siempre ha habido una transacción entre maestro y alumnos. Al guru (o al chamán/cura/rabino, etc.) se le daba dinero, favores, trabajo u objetos a cambio de su guía. El viejo modelo se basaba en la idea patriarcal de sumisión hacia alguien que sabe más.
Afortunadamente hoy en día existe un nuevo paradigma de claridad sin jerarquías. Yo soy profesora, enseño, no predico. Mi intención es educar a los alumnos para que ellos elijan sus propias ideas y maneras de relacionarse con el cuerpo, la mente y su Ser. Una clase de Hatha Yoga es física, espiritual y educacional. Sí, hay parte de negocio en el yoga, todos nos merecemos una vida cómoda. Cuando vas a una clase de yoga hay mucha preparación, esfuerzo, estudio y horas de trabajo que no se ven. ¡Eso tiene mucho valor!
¬†En el contexto de yoga actual por un lado tenemos la practica en sí, por otro el trabajo del profesor (y del estudio) y entre medias estás tú, quien le asigna un valor específico a lo que recibes. Del mismo modo que cuando vas al cine, de vinos con los amigos o a comer el menú del restaurante cerca de la oficina donde trabajas ¿no? Hay una transacción clara entre un servicio y algo que das a cambio. Ese algo en nuestro mundo es el dinero. Tú decides cómo utilizarlo y moverlo. El yoga es una inversión en ti mismo muy rentable. Su tintineo puede resonar en el Universo entero para el beneficio de todos.
